Hippopotamuses, also known as hippos, are large, semi-aquatic mammals that are native to sub-Saharan Africa. They are one of the most dangerous animals in the wild, and are known for their aggressive behavior and powerful jaws. Despite this reputation, hippos are actually known for their peaceful nature and are not typically aggressive towards humans. Hippos are herbivores and spend most of their time in the water, grazing on aquatic plants. They are excellent swimmers and can hold their breath for up to five minutes while they are underwater. They are also known for their large size, with adults weighing between 1,500 and 1,800 kg (3,300 to 4,000 lb).
